District Governor Kelly Speaks To Rotary

District 6310 Governor Mike Kelly met with the Club's board at their monthly meeting, then presented the program to the entire club at the regular luncheon meeting that followed.
Mike presented his vision and plan for the District in the 2015-16 Rotary year.
At the board meeting he elaborated on various points and then asked for a review of the activities, projects and events of the Club.
As part of the regular meeting Mike presented the 100% Paul Harris Fellow banner to the club. Thanks to a big effort by the Club, that milestone was reached in the Club's Centennial year just completed. The goal now will be to maintain that level into the future.
Mike talked about the Rotary International President's theme "Be a Gift To The World". He talked about what that means and about Rotary's impact. He noted the international efforts as well local efforts. He talked about the progress toward ending Polio world wide and the teaming with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Despite being the largest service club in the world, with millions of members, membership has declined in recent years. That is a trend with all service clubs. Mike talked about the work to again expand and bring in new members and evolve the organization. Youth programs like Roteract, Interact and RYLA are among the keys to this growth.
Mike also made note of the Bay City club's contributions to various Rotary funds and projects. This club is and has always been a leader in giving. Mike noted how contributions to the Annual Fund are important. These go to the international efforts for three years after which fifty percent of the gifts are returned to the District for local use.
In closing Mike reminded Rotarians of the District Conference at the end of May in Alpena. He then wrapped by saying "My call to action to you is to continue the good work that you do in all aeras, in your community, in your district, and around the world."

The club met at the Doubletree again this week, but will meet OFF-SITE NEXT WEEK at the Pere Marquette Depot again.
Taylor Pine from Central High and
Brooke McCann from Garber High spoke to the club about their recent experience at the Rotary Youth Leadership Award week at Camp Rotary near Clare. Both young ladies spoke about what a wonderful experience camp provided and the influence it had on them. Their message to the club was to try to expand the promotion of RYLA in the schools. They want everyone to hear about it and the positive things it does.
After the weekly opening with the 4-Way Test,
President Brenda encouraged everyone to
use the microphone when speaking. This is important. Although many of us think we can be heard, the fact is that we often can't. The club leadership gets frequent complaints after each meeting that various people just can't hear what is being said!
The Club Foundation board met recently. The
Golf Outing raised
$10,800. A check to be used for technology will be presented to the incoming Superintendent of Schools after she takes office.
Brenda also updated us on
Community Grants. The Fall cycle is open and the club has $5,000 to distribute. The committee prefers to receive applications electronically. Complete information is on the club web site at

Andrea Hales reminded us about the
Zombie Walk coming up Saturday, October 10. The event will run all day and have many events, including walking for those who don't run. There will be things for all ages including kids and families.
Andrea has sponsorship forms. Levels include a $250 "Bucket of Blood" sponsor, $500 "Blood and Guts", $1,000 "Arm and a Leg", and the coveted $5,000 "All You Can Eat Brains" sponsor.
Members, family and friends are reminded that Brenda is leading a "
Rotary Wednesday Walkout" at Wenonah Park each Wednesday evening at 6:15. The objective is to get in shape for the Fall
ZOMBIE RUN (and Walk).
Meet at the top of the park across from the planetarium.
Sargent at Arms,
Eric Jylha fined the entire club $1 for "BAD SINGING". Referring to one slight keyboard playing "malfunction",
Cindy Chadwick said that next week she along with
Tim Holsworth on guitar, will play a short concert of songs they almost know.
