International Night report:
The international night committee reported this year's event to be the best ever. Gross income was $42,240. Net $33,553! Congratulations to everyone involved.

Kathy Czerwinski noted that the club has has so many new Paul Harris Fellows this year that her script is just about worn out!
Last Weeks program - November 7, 2006 - Rotary Youth Exchange
Brian Reinhardt, Incoming Coordinator from Sebewaing, talked about the youth exchange program. Our district is part of the Central States Region, one of the first multi-district programs.
The top clubs in District 6310 are Midland, Owosso and Sebewaing. Bay City has become very active in recent years largely thanks to the efforts of member Rob Monroe. Reinhardt noted that it take some effort to get a program going, but once the momentum is there it just keeps going.
Our District approved 13 outbound students this year. We generally make our selections earlier than other districts which gives students a better shot at getting their preferred countries. This year all 12 students are girls.
At one time the program was aimed at high school juniors and seniors. The program has been extended to include students who have just graduated. Reinhardt said some students will find that it's a perfect experience to have between high school and the first year of collect.
The program holds an annual meeting which attracts between 900 and 1,000 participants. The Rotary International president has come to address the group the past two years. He made the statement "if every 17 year old in the world could experience a year of living in another country, it would be the end of wars."
This year's Bay City exchange student to Bay City is Guido Gargiullo from Rome. Guido spoke to the club and presented a slide show. His first slide said "Rome... everybody knows everything about it. So what I am going to show you is a pretty strange presentation, I hope you enjoy it..."
The very articulate young man then went on to show slides of ancient Rome and today's equivalent. He showed how the ancient Colosseum has its parallel in the Olympic stadium. Roman soldiers were compared to a handful of very relaxed modern policemen. He showed ancient gladiators opposite modern soccer stars (including instruction on which team to root for if you take in a match).
Following the slides Guido answered questions. "What do you think of American pizza?"... "I like it but it's different. More like bread with some stuff on it."
What about family? "I have one Mom and one Dad (grinning). Two older sisters, a dog and a cat."
Long term objectives? "I want to go into medicine."
Guido has been here for two months. There are many things he'd like to see. Members were encouraged to include Guido if they make plans to take in sporting events or other things he might enjoy seeing while in the states.
