On Tuesday, April 19, the Club will participate in the dedication of Bay City's first "historical micro park". This park, which is located on the Northeast corner of the Delta College Planetarium site, is part of the Club's five year, long range projectwhich will funnel $50,000 per year into parks, beautification, and other community improvements.

The Planetarium micro park is the first of at least two that will be developed downtown by the Rotary Club. It is hoped that other organizationswill step forward to develop additional parks. The next Rotary project will be the funding of the "Rotary Plaza" to serve as the Adams Street entrance to the renovated Pere Marquette Depot.

Members are reminded that Tuesday's meeting and dedication will be at the Delta Planetarium. The luncheon will be held inside then the group will move outside for the unveiling and dedication of the park.

Along with the micro-park, a number of sculptures have been created by Delta College students. These were judged by the committee and one was selected to be placed in the park setting. Several of the sculpture finalist are scheduled to be displayed at Tuesday's meeting.Last Tuesdays program was a presentation by Ed King of The Hantz Group. King discussed the realities of long term health care, the costs, and the options for funding such as long term care insurance. The fact is that advances in medical science means that people are living longer and must think about their care in later years. Fully 50% of the population can anticipate requiring long term care at some time in their life.

The other reality of long term care is that it is expensive. For those over 65, Medicare will pay for some long term care. But the benefit is limited and has a variety of restrictions, rules and conditions. The safety net is Medicaid, which is a welfare program. That program is reserved for those who have no more assets and then it provides only the basics of care, in a facility of the state's choosing, as space is available.
