Rotary Enjoys Fellowship Prior To New Year
December 30, 2014
By: Stephen Kent
The Rotary meeting on December 30 was casual and did not include a program. The club enjoyed fellowship among members and an abbreviated general meeting.
President Ron opened the meeting with a greeting from the South Pacific island nation of Fiji. The first Rotary club there was founded in 1936 with help from Rotarians from New Zealand. There were 3,943 Rotary Clubs world wide at that time. The brass "gong" that was presented at that time has remained in use to present times.

The Rotary Global History fellowship and at
Rotary 1st 100.
This was "Birthday Tuesday" and Ron read the names of those born in December. The club then sang "Happy Birthday".
Sergent At Arms Cindy called for Happy and Hard Luck bucks. Among those was a car story from Tim Holsworth. Following that, Cindy asked for other amusing and interesting car stories from members. Needless to say there were some good ones!
Past President Gena Gates, who has moved her membership to the Pinconning club, was in attendance. Tim Holsworth showed a short video from the Golf Channel about the tragic car crash in the Spring of 2013. Several golfers and the coach were killed and others were grievously injured. Gena's nephew Jason was among the most severely injured. He is gradually recovering, but faces serious problems. The Golf Channel video told the story.
Reminder: a member is still needed to serve on the Youth Exchange committee. If you have an interest, please contact Andrea.
The
Centennial Committee has set the goal of EVERY MEMBER achieving
Paul Harris Fellow status during the Centennial Year. There are matching points available that allow a member to receive their first Paul Harris level at a fraction of the normal $1,000 contribution.
