ROTARY FOUNDATION topic of programKathy Czerwinski presented an update on the Rotary Foundation. She began by outlining the four elements of effective clubs: Sustain and grow membershiopImplement successful service projectsSupport the Rotary FoundationDevelop club leaders for beyond club level
Most members know about the foundation from the Paul Harris Recognition regularly bestowed on members of the club. A Paul Harris Fellow is an individual who contributes $1000 to the Annual Programs fund or other approved programs. Other designations include the Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member who is an individual who personally contributes $100 or more each year to the Annual Programs fund. Contributions count toward Paul Harris Fellow and Multiple Paul Harris Fellow. For each additional $1,000 contribution, the member moves to an additional level; Paul Harris plus 1, plus 2, etc. For each $1,000 personally contributed , a PHF can also name another individual as a recipient of Paul Harris Fellow recognition.
Every club sets a goal of becoming a 100% Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member Club where every member of the club has personally contributed $100 or more to the Annual Programs Fund by June 30 of each Rotary year.
Foundation Recognition Points are awarded in appreciation for contributions an individual personally makes above the initial $1,000 but not yet allocated for PHF recognition. Once an account holder achieves his/her initial PHF, they may transfer their available Foundation recognition points to other individuals to name them Paul Harris Fellows.
A member can contribute to the foundation in several ways:Write a check to Rotary International and give it to Foundation chairInclude your contribution with your semi-annual duesUse an automatic deduction from your checking accountMake a contribution via the Rotary.org website.
The Bay City club has 60 current members who are Paul Harris Fellows: 36 first level 12 PHF + 1 4 PHF +2 2 PHF +3 1 PHF +4 - Carl Lockwood 3 PHF +5 - Gary Labadie, Ron Fuller, Jerome Yantz 1 PHF +7 - Harry Farris, Wes Timm 1 PHF +9 + - Bob Rogers
These 60 current members have given a total of $144,770 or an average of $2,413 each. The club's all time giving total is $236,555.
For the first three years, a contribution to the foundation is set asside and the interest us used to pay for administration and projects. After three years, 50% goes to World Service Matching Grants (TRF portion) and 50% comes back to the local district where20% is designated for District Simplified Grants which go to local clubs. The other 30% goes to district projects.
