Oh wow! Go see "Life"! I found myself cringing, smiling, gasping, and commenting out loud.
All of the actors did a nice job. I wouldn't call anyone in particular the star of the movie. It was more of an ensemble cast. Jake Gyllenhaal, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ryan Reynolds, Rebecca Ferguson, Olga Dihovichnaya, and Airyon Bakare were all good.
It pretty much takes place on the International Space Station (ISS) with very few scenes on Earth. The astronauts are instructed by NASA to capture a probe that had landed on Mars and was bringing back soil samples when it was hit by an asteroid storm and gotten off course. They start experimenting with the samples and of naturally, they find life.
The special effects are well done. They are supposedly working and living in constant zero gravity. How the filmmakers accomplished that is beyond me. It all looks very realistic.
It is an R-rated movie. A little swearing, no nudity, but violence and tension galore. Please don't bring young children.
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
