The Bay Concert Band begins its 42nd Season on Tuesday, October 30 at 7:00 pm with a concert entitled " Music from the Dark Side".
This sounds like FUN! And what better subject for the night before Halloween?
Everyone (of a certain age) will remember TV's Walt Disney show that would play " Night On Bald Mountain" for Halloween. We never missed that show and look forward to hearing it again!
The program features two selections from a Walt Disney's 1940 film "Fantasia". Starting the program is " Toccata and Fugue in D minor". It was in Fantasia but was ALSO featured in
"20,000 Leagues Under the Sea", where Captain Nemo played it on his organ aboard the submarine, Nautilus.
The other composition from "Fantasia", as mentioned above, and the concluding work of the concert,
is Mussorgsky's
"Night on Bald Mountain".
Originally titled "St. John's Eve on the Bare Mountain", this piece is a favorite for the season.
In between, the band features the music from two hit Broadway musicals: "Sweeney Todd, the demon barber of Fleet Street" and "The Addams Family Musical".
"The Witch and the Saint",
an original work for band by
Charles Gounod, Norman Dello Joio and Steven Reineke, round out the rest of the program.
You don't want to miss this one! And be sure to bring the kids!
Doors open at the Bay City Central Auditorium at 7 pm. Admission is $5 with students 6th grade and under free.
