Gregg Barber serenades wine tourists outside of River Rock Café.

I got my first taste of wine walking at the 1st Annual Midland Street Wine Walk last Thursday.

The Wine Walk brochure beckoned -- offering an evening of fun and frolic.

"Midland Street Wine Walk 6:00pm to 10:00pm - $20 - Includes 26 samples of wine from around the world, Souvenir Sample Glass, Hors d'oeuvres at each stop and Shuttle Service from Knight's Luxury Limo Service between locations."

That's gotta be a good night.

Plus . . . Last week's MyBayCity edition ran a preview article and MyBayCity's Entertainment Editor, Julie Munger gave the upcoming Wine Walk "Two Thumbs Up."

Oddly, neither the wine or the walking made the night a hit for me. It was meeting old friends that I hadn't seen for years and running into business associates in a friendly, party-like atmosphere. If you have the opportunity to take part in the summer fun of Bay City . . . Jump In . . . With Both Feet.

I have to mention the fabulous food that was available at each Wine Walk stop along the way.

Tommy V's: offered some garlic bread with a spinach/avocado dip along with pesto bread and a hot serving of Italian sausage and onions.

Art Dore's Stables and Lumber Barons: served up ample servings of jumbo shrimp and crab as well as cheese, crackers, grapes, fruit and desserts.

Hooters: had the obligatory wings and early in the night there was also a salmon dish.

Steamers:Chips, Salsa and Bean Dip.

River Rock Café:: Chicken and Rice.

Midland Street Pub & O'Hare's: Tangy Meatballs, Cheese and crackers, Chicken Salad Dip and Crab Dip, Chicken Strips and Fruit.

LumberJacks: Spicy Pasta and Fruit, Chex Mix.

Diamond Ball Room: Fried Cheese Ravioli, Wings, Sushi, Cheese & grapes.

Wine Walk Diary . . .

6:00 Tommy V's: The evening got off to a greatstart as I ran into Art Dore and Penny. Art and I exchanged small talk about those early days of Toughman. I asked about Lumber Barons and Stables. Art asked about MyBayCity. And it was time to move on.

6:30 The Stables: My first trip to the Stables. What a great job Dore and his crew have done with that section of the old Hereford and Hops building. Martini Bar, Cigars and an outstanding renovation project. I'll be back at Stables within a week.

7:00 Lumber Barons: -Ran into Paul Travis (and his wife), former Principal at Kolb School when my kids were in elementary school. We exchanged chit-chat about the Travis kids at college and the Cunningham kids and their travels. Always good to see Paul & Luann.

7:30 Hooters: On the Deck - REALTOR Cindy Sinicki of Re/Max Results and her husband are there. It's outdoors on the deck. Always good!

8:00 Steamers: On the Deck - Caught up with MBC Entertainment Editor Julie Munger, her friend Sheri and their respective Moms. Took pictures of the "Fab Four." Crowds are getting bigger and louder.

8:30 River Rock Café: Willis and Gregg (Owners) are sitting out front of River Rock . . . greeting everyone who enters. The line is long. Inside, I run into Tom Kaekel, CommonPoint Graphics, and we talk about Bay City business and what the future holds for our hometown in the next decade. Great to see Tom! On the way out, meet and chat with REALTOR President-Elect Charlene Rupp of Bay Area Real Estate.

Greg Barber is playing music outside River Rock Café. People are gathered in clumps . . . listening. Gregg and I go back to the days of Green Hut. If you need music contact Gregg at greggsb@svcglobal.net He plays soooooooooo good!

9:15 Midland Street Pub/O'Hare's: People are everywhere now. And there's a sense of urgency as the "Tour" is winding down. Leo Urban and Rick Starr are there. Rick compliments me on the old days of Bay County Sports Page. Leo talks about the Sports Hall of Fame. I love Bay City Sports!

9:30 Rathskeller: Paulette is busy. Crowds are packed inside. Got 4 more stops to make in just 30 minutes. (This is hard work)

9:40 LumberJacks & Diamond BallRoom: The Cheese Ravioli is a great snack. No time to linger. Tick . . . Tick . . .

9:48 Westown: Last time I was in Westown, there was a guy in a Captain Morgans outfit . . . promoting rum. Large screen music video is playing. The black light makes everything a bit eerie. I always liked the Westown.

9:55 Lucky's: End of the Rainbow

At Lucky's, Food Prep Specialist Jimmy Vaughn hustles
to keep the finger food available to the Wine Walkers.
