"There was a flurry of activity at noon on the last day," said Art Dore Wednesday night after closing the deal on a Battle Creek property with the Tower Investment Group.
Dore marketed Cereal City's tallest building, the 76-year-old Heritage Tower in a very unusual way. Dore listed it on eBay.
Dore said he has owned the building since 1994,when he bought it from Comerica Bank, who had intended to tear it down.
"I bought it from Comerica and then leased it back to them," Dore said. "It was a great building."
The building was constructed in 1931 by Merchants National Bank.
The Heritage Tower has 149,000-square-feet; a cathedral-like common area on the second floor, now used for special events; a 34-car, underground parking garage; and retail and office space on the ground floor.
"The Internet reaches out a long way," said the smiling Dore. "You gotta use every avenue to market properties in this day and age." Dore said that the buyers brought a Certified Cheque for $3.2 Million to the closing.
Dore said it was an easy decision to use eBay to help market the building. "This is the 21st century," he said. "It's a good tool. It reaches a whole lot of people."
