Contest to Name the 7 Wonders of Bay City
A few weeks back, a Swiss-based company came up with a plan to "update" the Seven Wonders of the World.
The concept of a "New" Seven Wonders of the World is a contemporary attempt to create an alternative to the historical (and perhaps outdated) previous list of the Seven Wonders of the World.
I got interested in the contest because I could only name four of the original "Wonders."
The result of a worldwide popularity poll organized by the private, non-profit New Open World Corporation (NOWC), its final list was announced on July 7, 2007 in Lisbon, Portugal, in the Estádio da Luz, SL Benfica's.
More than 100 million votes were cast through the Internet or by telephone. However, since nothing prevented fans, governments or tourism agencies from casting multiple votes, the poll is considered "decidedly unscientific".
In its Terms and Conditions, NOWC reserved "the right to exclude [any] votes" that were cast that they may have considered "suspect.".
No information has been given as to (if any) or how many excluded votes there might be. But here's the list of the 2007 winners.
Seven Wonders - 2007 Winners
Chichen Itza Worship, Knowledge Yucatán, Mexico
Christ the Redeemer Welcoming, Openness Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Great Wall of China Perseverance, Persistence China
Machu Picchu Community, Dedication Cuzco, Perú

Did you notice?
Nothing in the United States. And worse yet . . . nothing in Bay City, Michigan.
The more I got to thinking about this, the more I figured there must be at least one "wonderful" thing in our town.
And then . . . you guessed it - I decided that MyBayCity should have a Seven Wonders of Bay City Contest.
So I e-mailed my posse and used all of their suggestions to compile the list that follows.
I'm sure we missed at least one. If you have one to add to the list . . . don't hesitate to mail your suggestion to me at the following link. Mail My Suggestion to O. J. at MyBayCity
We'll take nominations for a week or two and then let the voting begin.
