The roof is up! The Pere Marquette Depot is beginning to have a finished look.
After several false starts, where wind or other conditions prevented the crane from lifting the roof, early Saturday morning proved perfect with bright sun and no wind.
Several spectators showed up to watch as the crane operator fired up around 7:00 a.m. It took about 15 minutes lift the roof , which had been built on the ground, and position it on the pillars. The crew was pleased with the perfect fit.
Once the roof was secured, someone ran to get a flag, and foreman Aubrey Woods of Pumford-Gregory Construction climbed on top to plant the flag. While there, he shot four views with one of my cameras. The crew finally took a break to pose for a 'victory shot.'
