An inability to stop Garber's point guard Brett Eichhorn and a domination of the boards by Garber lead to a high scoring 91-77 win over the visiting North Branch Broncos.
North Branch started out attempting to establish a long-range three-point attack against the Dukes while Garber focused their offense in the paint.
Half way through the opening quarter, the Bronco's employed a
full court man-to-man press. Eichhorn handled the pressure while showcasing his killer cross over and ball handling skills.
Eichhorn's press breaking skills caused the Bronco players to step in to help and opened passing lanes to the Garber forwards for easy buckets.
The first quarter ended with both teams knotted at 15.
Garber put their track shoes on for the second quarter and upped the tempo as their fast break offense got some quick baskets moving
them out front 29-23.
The Broncos continued to try to double team trap Eichhorn on the point, which led to many of his 15 assists.
Coupled with some cold shooting by North Branch, Garber took a 38-33 half time lead.
The second half started with Eichhorn hitting game and career high
scorer Sean Duchaine (32) with pinpoint passes for two
quick baskets and a 42-33 lead.
The Bronco's defense cut off the passing lanes and their offense made a 7-0 run to pull back to 42-41.
The Dukes went back inside to Duchaine who went on his own 6-0 run and the Dukes were back on top 48-41.
Garber led 64-56 at the end of the third.
North Branch started the fourth with a new look as they opened with a 4 man perimeter offense looking to cash in on the three-pointers.
Eichhorn picked up his fourth foul and left the game with 5
minutes to play. The Dukes stepped it up without their floor general as they put on a passing clinic of their own throwing inside to counter the Bronco's long-range assault.
Eichhorn returned at the 4:32 mark and Garber switched
to ball control. This caused North Branch to foul and test the Dukes free throw skills.
Solid shooting from the stripe and in your face defense allowed Garber to pull away and seal the win. Eichhorn finished with 14 along with team mate Jake Hebert while Shane O'Mara had his career high with 24.
