Central Come Up Short Against Mt. Pleasant in District Finals
Wolves Fall to Oilers 46-39
The unlikely District finalist Bay City Central fell to Mount Pleasant Friday night 46-39. For three and a half quarters the Wolves flirted with a Championship.
The 5-16 Wolves played like there was no tomorrow, unfortunately like the most of our Bay City basketball pride, there will be no tomorrow.
The scrappy Wolves who earned their right to be in the Championship with a surprise win over the Dow Chargers continued to show their grit in Fridays Championship.
Although just scoring three points in the second quarter they still held a one-point lead at halftime.
Paying there respect, the Oiler student section did all they could to help out their team with Chants of, "Bradley, Bradley," and, "airball, airball," whenever the Wolves three-point phenom Brad Norman or their other guards touched the ball.
The Oilers needed all the help they could get as Justin Reed scored a tip-in at 3:03 in the third that put the Wolves up 27-21.
Riding their sophomore horse Trey Ziegler after a time out, Mount Pleasant kept going to their big man until they tied it up at 31 with 5:12 left in the game.
Mount Pleasant took the lead and the game from the Wolves with three-point shooting with 4:15 left in the game.
Three separate players hit three three's in a row as Tyler Gross canned the final to make it 40-34 and the Wolves underdog dreams were thwarted.
"They just couldn't hold on," said their proud principal Tim Marciniak before congratulating his student athletes and their coach after the game.
Looking towards next season already Marciniak mentioned, "We have a couple good athletes coming up from the JV, we just don't have any height." MyBayCity.com congratulates the 2007-2008 Wolves for making it to the Championship and we look forward to their growth next season.
