Top seed at Midland, Alla Kudryavtseva, 21, of Russia, ranked 70 in the world in singles.
Who'd have ever thought it?
A $3,000 diamond tennis bracelet to the winner of the 21st annual Dow Corning Tennis Classic.
Well, Jenkins Custom Jewelry, 205 S. Saginaw Road, Midland, thought of it, and it will happen this year at the Sunday conclusion of the tourney.
Diamonds will definitely be a girl's best friend; and, the girl could be from one of 25 nations playing before a total of about 15,000 fans this week at the Midland Community Tennis Center on Wackerly Road, Midland.
And, a one carat diamond Journey necklace from Jenkins will go to a lucky fan chosen during halftime of matches on Valentines Day, Saturday, Feb. 14.
Tour officials on hand for a press conference Monday said "Midland is the class of the circuit," asserting that pros are lavish with praise for the tourney.
While some tournaments have been canceled because of a lagging economy, Midland raised $500,000 to continue the Classic that appears better than ever.
Patrons at the event will have a chance to watch top-ranked players from Russia, Hungary, France, Ashland, Kentucky, the Czech Republic, Uzbekistan, China, California, Greece and Greece.
Flint's Mahona Washington, now of Houston, will be attempting a comeback at Midland, as well Lindsay Lee-Waters, of Dunwoody, Georgia, both former top 50 players.
Fans will want to catch the action of the top seed, Alla Kudyavtseva, 21, of Russia, world ranked 70, and second seed Melinda Czink, 26, of Hungary.
Other stars include Stephanie Foretz, 27, of France, world 114, Julie Ditty, 30, of Ashland, KY, No. 115, along with Lucie Hrdecka, 24, of Czech Republic.
