The 2010 East Michigan Golden Gloves District Championship Tournament will be conducted at the Birch Run Expo Center on Thursday, March 11, Thursday, March 18 and Saturday, March 27, 2010.
East Michigan boxing clubs in competition for this year's tournament are from Bay City, Davison, Flint, Harrison, Lapeer, Michigan Center, Pontiac, Port Huron and Saginaw.
Winners from this event in both the Novice and Open Divisions advance to the Michigan Golden Gloves State Championships to be held the weekend of April 9, 10, 2010 at the Grand Valley National Guard Armory, in Wyoming, MI.
Open class champions from the State finals, then move on to the National Golden Gloves Championships to be conducted on May 3rd through 8th in Little Rock, AK.
The Preliminary Round of the 2010 East Michigan Golden Gloves District Championships will be held on Thursday, March 11th, at the Birch Run Expo Center beginning at 7:00 p.m. Winners from this weeks action advance to the Semi-Final round set for next Thursday, March 18th.
Boxers from Bay City's ABAA Boxing Club participating in the preliminary round of this 3-day event include Devin Tomkins, Tristin Morse, Chase Reynolds and Matt Maciag.
Tickets for all 3 nights of the tournament are available at the Ticket Counter located just inside the door of the Expo Center.
According to East Michigan Golden Gloves Director, Gary Richards,
What is unique for this year's tournament is that this event opens up a new door; that being, for the first-time-ever this tournament will include the Junior Golden Gloves Division (boxers aged 8 through 16) in competition for championship honors that has not been included in any past East Michigan Golden Gloves Tournament.
This will also be a stepping-stone for the East Michigan District junior boxers who will be entering the 2010 Michigan Junior Olympic State Championships to be held in Southfield, MI. the weekend of April 24, 25, 2010.
Starting times for the East Michigan Golden Gloves on each night will be 7:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Birch Run Expo Center Box Office.
