The 2nd Annual McLaren-Bay Region Bed Races brought out healthy competition and loads of fun for the 15 teams looking to be deemed the winners of the time honored stainless steel Bed Pan trophy.
Teams showed extreme creativity with their themed beds and corresponding costumes to represent their departments. Team There is No Place Like Home and Hospice with employees from the Home Health Care Group dressed in their Wizard of Oz best with Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and yes even Toto, their little dog too.
The team Golden Nuggets from the Diagnostic Department brought out their frontier side with a covered wagon bed and participants dressed as cowboys and gold miners.

It wouldn't be a competition without out its twists and turns and this was no exception. Last year's race winners, the Pill Pushers, from the Pharmacy Department got caught-up with the new addition of the "Diligent Maxislide Safety Drill," which had to be performed mid-way down and back. This maneuver is used by nurses on a daily basis for safely turning and transporting patients in their beds.
Because of some ill-planned preparedness with the maxislide flip, the Pill Pushers' time was penalized and they did not make it to the second round. "It was a great day and everyone brought their "A" game," says Jeff Meyer who is a Pharmacist and Pill Pushers' team member. "We definitely had a target on our back after winning last year and we learned the hard way that we should have practiced a little more," states Meyer, "We look forward to next year and regaining our trophy."
In the end, team Stroke It from 6 East took third place for the second year in a row winning the toilet bowl prize, team Room Raiders from the Materials Management Department came in second with the framed maxislide award, and the Pediatric Rugrats, with a solid time of 47:06, took the victory, bragging rights, and the Bed Pan trophy.
