Some 20 Saginaw Valley State University students are heading out Friday, Sept. 7 to volunteer their time to restore their community. The group will work to improve the appearance of Bay City during the city?s second annual Neighborhood Clean-Up.
Students will meet at Rexer-Jablonski Park on S. Water Street at 10 a.m. and work until 2 p.m. The clean-up, organized by Mayor Chris Shannon?s Community Revitalization Committee, will cover the space within 15th Street and 19th Street, and Water Street and Garfield Avenue.
In addition to the SVSU student volunteers, another 20 students from the university?s charter schools will lend their time and talents. Participating students hail from Detroit Community High School, Winans Academy, Chandler Park Academy, Heart Academy High School, Northwest Academy High School, Oakland International Academy, César Chávez Academy High School and Merrit Academy.
For more information on SVSU?s efforts, contact Shawn Wilson, director of the Office of Multicultural Student Services at (989) 964-7147 or swilson@svsu.edu.
