Cormorant problems to be discussed at April 30 Fishing Workshop in Oscoda.
The latest information on trends in fishing in Lake Huron will be highlighted Saturday, April 30 at a daylong workshop in the Oscoda Yacht Club.
Most interesting to area fishers no doubt will be a report, "Recent Efforts to Manage Double Crested Cormorants in the Great Lakes," presented by Tony Aderman, of USDA Wildlife Services, Gaylord.
"Prey Fish Research and Trends in Lake Huron" will be offered by Jeff Schaeffer and Ed Roseman, of USGS Great Lakes Science Center, Ann Arbor.
Other workshops include:
Charter Boat Catch and Creel Report," by Jim Johnson, MDNR Fisheries Division, Lake Huron Fishery Research Station, Alpena;
"Status of Chinook Salmon and Lake Trout in Lake Huron -- Predator/Prey Relationships," by Mr. Johnson;
"Saginaw Bay Perch and Walleye Research and Management," with Dave Fielder and Jim Baker, DNR Fisheries Division, Alpena and Bay City;
"Changes to Lake Huron Foodweb Base," with spokespersons from NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory, Ann Arbor;
"Fisheries Management Tools and Perspectives," presented by Dave Borgeson, MDNR Fisheries Division, Lake Huron Management Unit, Gaylord;
"Stakeholder Perspectives of a Changing Lake Huron Fishery (facilitated discussion), moderated by Brandon Schroeder, District Sea Grant Agent, Michigan Sea Grant.
