Lightning is one of the leading weather-related causes of death and injury in the United States.
Most people do not realize that they can be struck by lightning even when the center of a thunderstorm is 10 miles (16 kilometers) away and there are blue skies overhead.
For that reason, and that reason alone, the 2nd Annual Woof Sit has been Postponed due to a forecast for Friday night inclement weather.
Organizers had hoped that the weather would cooperate, but forecasts are calling for "Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after noon. Southwest wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible."
Josh Sharrow from Last Choice Country 108.5 says he is disappointed to make the decision. "Even though the odds of becoming a lightning victim in the U.S. in any one year are 1 in 700,000. This is a chance I'm not willing to take. They are odds we aren't willing to take!"
"Something about the Newspaper Headline 'Local Radio DJ's die on appliance store roof during lightning storm.' Doesn't seem like it should be the lead page in our scrapbook of accomplishments," added Sharrow.
The event is now re-scheduled to take place in early spring. More information will be available on MyBayCity.com as it becomes available.
