June 19-22, the first weekend of Summer, saw the Dobson Industrial River Roar return to Bay City's waterfront for the 16th year.

Thousands turned out for the four day event. Bay City's downtown waterfront provides some of the best race viewing of any race site in the nation. Both sides of the river have paved walks right on the river which give up close access to the action. Admission to the West side of the river is only $5 for an entire day. The ample bleachers provide plenty of seating and a great vantage point. There are lots of food vendors as well as a carnival with rides for the kids.

The Race is run on a 1 mile oval course between the city's Veterans Memorial and Liberty Bridges. According to information providedby the River Roar organization, "Drivers consider the Bay City course one of the most difficult and potentially dangerous is their country series. The river is 700 feet wide with concrete seawalls on both sides that creates choppy waters adding a special test for the veteran drivers."

The River Roar is the second event of a great summer season, following the YWCA River Side Art Festival the week before. Next week, July 3, 4, and 5, will see the huge Fourth of July Fireworks festival. Every Tuesday and Thursday evening the Bay Arts Council summer concerts provide a wonderful, outdoor experience for everyone.
