Hey Bay City, it's time to ROAR! For 17 years the River Roar has been the hot water event of the summer. It's that time again.

Boats began to arrive Wednesday afternoon. The 18 wheelers were pulling in and getting washed up. The boats were being prepped. The racers and crews were checking the water and making plans.

River Roar is primarily a charity fund raising event. According to River Road President Rick Nelsen, of Simmon's Jewelry, over the past three years along the organization has given almost $40,000 back to the community. The primary beneficiary being the Boys and Girls Club.

Bay City River Roar, Inc.is a 501c3 non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers. Nelsen says that the event has many as 300 volunteers involved each year.

The River Roar is one of the best entertainment values of the summer. General admission to the west side of the river and the bleachers is only FIVE DOLLARS... and parking is free.

An even better bargain is "Free Friday". The ChanpBoats will be testing most of the afternoon and the park is open to the public without charge.

Friday evening features a free concert, sponsored by BayCom. The program will open with a basketball demonstration by the "Great Lakes Storm". Following that will be a presentation by the "Conquerors". The program will wrap up with singer Allen Asbury. The concert will be presented on the large portable stage the bowl area near the Hellicopter on the West Side.

A secondBayCom sponsored concert will be given Saturday night featuring "Night Ranger". This event is jointly promoted by 104.5 Wheelz Radio and the admission charge is all of one dollar and four cents. As one might expect, the concert is already sold out.

Watch for the MyBayCity.com follow-up article and pictures of the actual event in our Monday issue.
