I went and saw "The Martian". Excellent! Very likely an Oscar contender in many categories.
The story is in the future and Mars has been visited by us numerous times. The latest crew of astronauts encounter a terrible dust storm and hurry to leave. One member, Matt Damon, gets injured and lost. They leave him because all of his bio-readings show he died. He didn't.
It's edge of your seat intense and very scientifically accurate except for the dust storm, but the author used it for excitement.
There is just the right amount of humor thrown in to ease the tension. The supporting cast all did an excellent job. Jessica Chastain is his captain. Jeff Daniels is the head of NASA. Chiwetel Ejiofor is the project director. Kristen Wiig is in it with a non-comedic roll. All good and well cast.
We saw it in 3-D. It was good. We usually don't go out of our way to view movies in 3-D but someone said it was worth it. I agreed.
The book is well written also. I haven't quite finished it but I still plan on doing so.
Great movie.
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
