John Bellsmith has been creating cartoons for his daughter every school day and putting them in her lunch box.

They are works of love meant to have a charismatic, uplifting effect on his daughter Cali Bellsmith. Some are lighthearted and sarcastic with images of made-up characters, and some are messages of compassion with characters we all know.

Either way, his work (for Cali) can be enjoyed by people of all ages at Studio 23 in Downtown Bay City from now to February 5th.

"I think we created a total of around 500 lunchbox doodles," John Bellsmith said about the display at Studio 23. "But when we sorted through the pile, we only found about 380 lunch-box doodles remaining," Bellsmith went on. "The remaining 120 were either given away or maybe traded for pudding cups at lunch," Bellsmith smiled.

Bellsmith went on to say that these doodles were never intended to be on a wall in a gallery. "They're just quick doodles for my daughter's lunchbox. The fact that they are on a wall in a gallery . . . well, it's nothing short of overwhelming."

The "Doodle Wall" at Studio 23 has also made an impact in the community.

"It's hard to impress my teenage son these days," said Magen Samyn. "And he thought it was super cool!"

Samyn's son asked her if John (Bellsmith) was famous. "Of course, he is," Samyn told her son. "My son actually thanked me for taking him. Huge parenting win," Samyn added.

"What a great exhibit," said Brenda Scramlin after seeing the Doodle Wall. Scramlin went on to say that she really enjoyed her time looking at Bellsmith's doodles at Studio 23. "Definitely going back with a few friends," Scramlin added.

The exhibit runs at Studio 23 until February 5th.
