CAN Council's Wines Around The World Huge Success

Sold out event packs the DoubleTree

Wow! "What a night" as the CAN (Child Abuse and Neglect) Council Great Lakes Bay Region Bay County hosted their 13th Annual Wines Around the World. This is the Bay County chapter's annual fundraiser to support their various programs that are focused toward helping stop child abuse and neglect.

What makes this event so special is how the business community comes together donating food, time and the intangibles to put on a World Class event. What makes this a success is the individuals who come and support this great cause by their attendance and generosity. It has become one of THE social events of the year in Bay County.





Catholic Federal Credit Union was the presenting business of this year's event hosted at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel. US.Foods donated the ingredients while area chefs from our very fine eateries around town showed off their skills by serving up some awesome eats for all to enjoy. Fabiano Brothers, as well as others, supplied the wine and expert staff and volunteers helped ensure a well-presented event. But it was the nearly 600 guests that made for a fun and social evening.









Friends, neighbors and soon to be friends gathered all around the room to sample the great food and wine while taking in warm conversation. Silent auction items provided excellent opportunities to walk away with over 150 great gifts ranging from wine baskets to Tiger tickets to a kayak. The evening ended with a live auction featuring 7 great options including a Tiger ticket package, Pheasant Hunt, two condos in Colorado, a sunset cruise on Saginaw Bay, dinner for 8 at Old City Hall, Michirondack chairs made by inmates at the Freeland Correctional Facility and a Bay Harbor Gold Experience.





With all the fun, it is the children and families of Bay County that benefitted most from this event. Proceeds allow the Bay County chapter of the CAN Council to further their mission: "We are building communities where children are free from abuse and neglect!"

Services they provide are strengthening their nationally accredited Children's Advocacy Center which provides forensic interviews to abused children, expanding the CASA program in Bay County which provides a Court Appointed Children's Advocate in are Neglect and Abuse cases, a time Prevention Education Coordinator providing such programs as Sexting, Safe Baby and soon parenting classes as well as expanding their Safe Baby Program by utilizing a computerized infant simulator to teach Safe Sleep and prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome.

While this event helped not only raise much-needed funds for this Council to continue their great work, it also helped bring awareness to the child abuse and neglect problem in our communities.
