JR's is located right next door to
Steamers Pub on Linn St.

Rick and Jason Kingsbury, Owners

Jason Kingsbury and his father Rick opened the male exclusive barbershop in mid January of 2006, at 110 N. Linn Street, Bay City. JR's All Star - Haircuts For Men (Formerly Brooklyn Boyz Pizzeria) is located next door to Steamers Pub & Grill.

Jason and Rick got the idea from similar establishments in Detroit, Jason's previous residence. They were destined to find the right location in the tri-cites and decided the Midland Street Business District, would be the perfect spot.

The theme of the establishment is exclusively for men, with all sports paraphrenalia everywhere you look. Walk-ins are welcome, when you come in, you can drop your coat off on the coat rack made of hockey sticks, sign your name in and sit down in the stadium seating, (which was actual stadium seating from the Memorial Stadium in Baltimore) and watch the sporting event of your choice on the Big Screen. In addition, sports and male oriented magazines are available while you are waiting for your appointment.
Each station is set up in a different theme, "Red Wings", "Lions" and "Pistons" Craftsman tool boxes are used for the girl's tools of the trade. "Most of the ideas came from Jason", says Rick. "There is a TV on each of the girl's stations, they will hand you the remote and you're in charge. No soaps on in here," he laughed.

"I like to think of us as the Barber Shop of the 21st Century," says Rick. "It's a place where guys can come and relax." Most guys do not feel comfortable in salons. We are totally set up for a man's convenience, for that reason, even the restroom, is all done up in Red Wings and always has the day's sports page available.

"We have a full line of men's hair products for sale. We carry Paul Mitchell, American Crew and Woody's, also Nioxin which is for balding or thinning hair. We hope to become the biggest men's hair care supplier in the area. We also have a large selection of baseball caps for sale and sunglasses, which we think will be convenient for boaters down at the marina this summer", adds Rick

Rick comments, "We have what we call the 911 Special, inspired for our fireman, police, and ambulance crew - haircuts for $9.99, now through March. JR's is also planning a special honoring the military. Hair cuts include tea tree wash/scalp message, hot towel and style.

When asked if they cut women's hair, the answer was yes. "In fact, we had a couple of teenage girls come in last week. I think we have had a total of 3 female clients since we opened." says Rick. "We are not fully-equipped to cover all women's hair needs, such as perms, but we do color highlights, tips or streaks."

(Left) At the Red Wings, station is Cosmetologist Stacy Kukla, part-time employee with customer John McCallum, (owner of Midland Street's Lucky's Pub, Westown and Lumber Jacks). McCallum says "It's convenient and the sports theme and TV's are great. I will definitely be back!" McCallum went on to say, "I think the Midland Street Business District will be very supportive of this new establishment. It brings something new and different to the area."
Below (Right) Patrick Brady, 20, back home in Bay City after a tour of military duty in Iraq last year, is a returning customer, and says he likes it here cause its "different, close to my house and the prices are reasonable."

Everyone's welcome but as you can see we are set up to appeal the male cliental, one thing is for sure, there is no "male bashing" in here, laughs Rick. Anyone who loves sports, will love it here! Also, in back there is the 19th hole putting green that the kids love.

"Service is Our Priority" says Rick, You can walk-in or call ahead and make an appointment by calling 894-0478. Business Hours are 10 am to 10 pm. Monday through Saturday.
