With Art Clash 2016 just days away, Bay City artist Rosemary Kavanagh has no idea what she will create during the three-hour competition.

A plan that worked out well last year when her painting of a bouquet of flowers took third place.

"I have a few ideas, but I'm leaving it open to last minute inspirations," she said. "Last year I grabbed some flowers and maybe I'll paint these today. It was a total surprise I won anything. I needed the money, so it was great."

Kavanagh is one of the 65 artists - ages preschool on up - who will be going head to head at Graff Chevrolet, 3636 Wilder Road, in this fundraiser for Do Art, a division of Do All Inc.

Although she has no plan, she says painting while people wander around and watch is no big deal.

"It very competitive and stressful if you haven't painted in front of people," she said. "I've painted on the street and I'm fine with painting in front of people. They give you a three-hour time limit. It's very interesting to be introduced to that type of stress."

Stress aside, artists hit the ground painting, sculpting, whatever their craft may be at 4:30 p.m. The event opens to the public at 6 p.m., giving the public not only a chance to watch artists at work but vote and purchase their favorites. Winners will be announced at 8 p.m.

Judges will also be making their way around the room choosing five works of art from the adults and four from children, with the crowd choosing a favorite as well, which will go into a live auction. Remaining artwork will be part of a silent auction, that also includes jewelry, overnights, dinners, theater tickets and other items from area businesses.

Winning artists receive prize money ranging from $500 to $50, as well as half of the auction price.

"We're hoping to raise $20,000," said Linda Cassar, community program coordinator. "All the money goes to Do Art for art classes and supplies for our trainees."

Tickets are $20 before the event, available at Do Art, 810 Washington Ave.., and Do All Inc., 1400 S. Lincoln Ave., and $25 at the door. Tickets include a buffet meal from Krzysiak's House restaurant. There is also a cash bar.

Artists may still sign up by calling 989-894-2851, or stopping by Do Art or Do All.

With trainees competing as well, this fundraiser goes beyond the money raised.

"This is one fundraiser that brings joy and celebrates creativity for all artists," said Cassar.
