Heather Gallegos, Associate Director of Community Affairs for Michigan Operations at Dow Chemical, spoke to Rotary giving an update regarding Dow Chemical activities including the DuPont merger and the Dow Corning acquisition.
Heather's remarks touched on a number of questions commonly asked about the company and it's interests and impacts on the local economy. She talked about the direction the company is likely to take in the future and what that might mean to the area.
She answered or commented on several questions from the audience. Matt Felan provided some insights from his perspective as head of the Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance.
CLUB NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Club board met before the regular meeting. The topics and actions from that meeting were summarized for the members at the regular meeting that followed.
President-elect Bob Chadwick, announced that officers and board have been selected for his term, which will begin in July 2017. Bob will be followed in 2018-19 by
Harvey Schneider, the current President Nominee. Bob also announced that the 2019-20 President Nominee who follows Harvey will be
Tara Welch.
The Board voted to extend our support of the amaranth seed project in Guatemala by extending the project to another two villages. This project will be funded by a $2,000 grant from the club's foundation and a matching $3,000 from member Chuck Cusick.
President Andrea noted that the family who was to host our exchange student for the second half of the year had a change in plans and will be moving prior to that term. Andrea is looking for a second family to host our student.
November 7 has been chosen for next year's Vocational Day. That's a year away so there's plenty of time to think about helping.
The next Rotary Night Out at the Brewery has been scheduled for January 14 at the Tri-City Brewery's new location.
The board will NOT meet in January.
President Andera reminded members that the box for collecting books for the Philippines is at the door each week. If you, or your family, has old kids books, be sure to see if they might be donated to this project.
The annual Christmas Program will be NEXT WEEK, December 20th. The Bay City Morning Rotary, the Northern Bay and Arenac Rotary, and the Optimists have been invited. Entertainment will be by the Garber Varsity Choir. Thanks to Lee Newton for organizing this event.
