March and April welcome Spring flowers and returning robins to the area, but thry also bring Spring Art as Studio 23 in downtown Bay City runs their annual student art exhibits. These shows are an opportunity to showcase the talent of area youth, which is considerable! According to Studio 23 directory Betsy Dean, "These are the most photographed shows we ever have."

The first show, which ended last week, is called Teen Works and was sponsored by Independent Bank. That show featured works by 6th through 12th grade students from all area schools, both public and parochial. The front window of the gallery was painted for the shop by art students from Central High. The exhibit was organized and hung by art students from John Blen High.

The current show is calledKids Kreations and is sponsored by S.C. Johnson. The show, which features over 300 works selected by the school art teachers, runs through April 16.

Students created art works in many mediums including cloth, clay, pencil, paint, and cut paper. In the photo at right Jason Rupp, 3rd grader at Hampton School, shows his piece called "Colored Pencil Symmetry".

Works in each show are judged by member of the Studio 23 board and one piece is selected to be featured on a postard that is mailed to all Studio 23 members.

Studio 23 hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00am to 5:00 pm. Starting April 2nd the gallery will also be open on Sundays from 12 noon until 4:00 pm.

For information about membership, sponsorship or opportunities to get involved, you can call Studio 23 at (989) 894-2323 or visit their web site at Studio23BayCity.org.
