A great example of a spring, river-run male Steelhead sporting full spawning colors

Michigan experienced its first real taste of spring weather this past week, and with it anglers have begun to flock to the rivers and streams that dump into the great lakes in search of spring Steelhead.

Every spring, hundreds of thousands ofSteelhead “return home” during their annual spawning run. This offers river anglers their best chance of the year to catch what many consider to be the crown jewel of all great lakes fishes. However, just because river Steelhead numbers are higher in March and April than any other time of the year, don’t be fooled into thinking that they are easy prey. In fact, spring Steelhead fishing can be some of the hardest of the year.

Many variables affect where Steelhead will be, and what they’ll be doing, once they enter a river; the most important of these being water temperature. By understanding how water temperature determines where Steelhead will locate, and what they’ll be doing in that particular spot, anglers have a decided edge when chasing these lake-run silver bullets.

For Steelhead anglers looking to dissect the mystery of water temperature, look no further than BugWater Media’s Temperature Rising: Spring Steelhead DVD. Released in 2005, Temperature Rising goes into exhaustive detail on the subject of water temperature and how it dictates the entire spring cycle of Steelhead. The video breaks the spring into four distinct water temperature cycles. During each cycle, details on where Steelhead will be found, as well as what they’ll be doing, give the viewer knowledge about spring Steelhead fishing that has never been available to this point.

Not only are the “secrets” about water temperature finally unveiled, but each is authenticated with incredible fish-fighting action. A series of “Guide Tips” are scattered throughout the video aimed at giving the viewer additional knowledge concerning, what has to this point, been a relatively unknown key in unlocking spring angling success.

All in all, Temperature Rising is a tool, a tool meant for anyone looking to pursue spring-run river Steelhead. Its aim is simple, to give the viewer the knowledge necessary to become more successful on their very next trip to the water.

And isn’t that what any good tool does?!
