After introduction by Gena Gates, Bay City Rotary Club president-elect, eight members of a Bay Area Chamber of Commerce training program told the club about their experiences.

The young trainees participated in nine sessions selected by the Chamber to orient them about community resources and needs.

Magen Trask, employee of Bay Future, Inc. and a member of the Bay City Morning Rotary Club, explained two projects worked on by the recent class of Leadership Bay County.

1-A science lab for the Bay Arenac Community High School.

2-Helen M. Nickless Volunteer Health Clinic.

Class members on hand for the Rotary discussion included Holly Bickham, Nelson Niederer, Bill Schubert, Jeff Anderson, Barb Engelhardt, Sandy Pope and Angie Price.

About $30,000 was raised for the science lab through a silent auction at the annual meeting of the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and a grant from Dow Corning Foundation, Ms. Trask said.

"I was fortunate to be part of a team that involved the entire community," she commented.

Jeff Anderson told how the group partnered with the Dobson Antique Toy and Fire Truck Museum to conduct a grand opening.

About $9,000 in proceeds from ticket sales for the grand opening were donated to the Nickless Clinic, he said, adding: "We organized the whole event and it was quite an intensive project."

Mr. Anderson, agent with Top Producers real estate, continued: "This is an excellent program; we learned a lot about the community; we love it.

Mr. Schubert, an employee of the Bay County Water and Sewer Department, said: "I saw parts of Bay County I didn't know existed. I would highly recommend it to anyone; no matter how much they think they know about the community there's more to learn."###
