The Library Millage Renewal Vote is Tuesday Aug 8
Your YES vote is critical!

MyBayCity.com recommends and encourages all Bay County voters to get on Tuesday August 8th and vote to renew the Library Millage.

Renewal is essential if the county is to continue to provide the community with one of its most important services.

Tuesday's vote is a millage renewal. It is not a new millage. It is not related to the construction and renovation project.

61 % of the Library's operating revenue comes from the millage. Without this millage it's hard to imagine how the library will even stay open.

Some important facts:

  • The Bay County Library system is one of the top rated and most used systems in the state.

  • Over 81,000 people hold Bay County Library cards.

  • Over 900,000 items were checked out in a 12 month period. Up from some 800,000 in 2003.

  • The state average library usage is 6.1 items per capita. In Bay County the average is 8.24 items.

  • Nearly 50,000 patrons visited the library system in March!

  • The millage renewal is NOT part of the construction funding which was voted in several years ago. The millage renewal is for operations of the system.

  • The new main library was built to alleviate the impossible over crowding at the old Carnegie library. The new building is a state of the art facility built for the next generation, not just for today.
