Beer collectors and connoisseurs from all over Michigan came out Saturday for Super Summer Swap 17 - Beer Advertising Show.

The Buy-Sell-Trade Auction was held on Saturday, August 26, 2006 at Veteran's Memorial Park Pavilion on Bay City's West Side. The event was hosted by the Michigan's Dog Gone Good Chapter (DGGC) of the National Association of Breweriana Advertising (NABA).

It was a festive occasion celebrating Michigan's legendary brewing history. It was a sale/swap meet for old "as in pre-prohibition" beer/brewery advertising including bottles, cans, tap knobs, trays, cases, signs. Right on through to current items such as mirrors, hunting - sports - racing - tin tackers and neons.

Bob Pawlak, Newsletter Editor of the DGGC, said, "Today was a success, the last two shows we had were dampened by rain." Pawlak, went on to say, "Todays weather was overcast, but we had a nice breeze out here, which made for a very comfortable and successful day."

John Coupie, Treasurer/Secretary of the DGGC, said, "People came today from all parts of Michigan, and even out of state, we had some people here today that were from South Bend, Indiana."

(Left) Dan McShane, President of the DGGC, reads the winning ticket number for the much awaited grand prize winner. There were also more than a dozen raffle drawings ,which were the winning tickets holder's item of choice off a full table of brewing/beer memorabilia.

McShane said, "We had over 30 tables and sold well over 100 brats. McShane adds, "We want to thank Michigan Brewery Company from Webberville, Michigan, who donated the beer."

Other sponsors that McShane thanked were: Americana Company - Antiques, Finest Antique Company, St. Laurent Brothers, Stein Haus, and Frankenmuth Brewery.

(Above Left & Right) Dick Milne of Kalamazoo raises his winning ticket. Milne was the grand prize winner of a Michelob Lighted Neon.

(Above Left) Becky (wife of McShane) with their children, Seth and Adam, show their support for the club and their heritage with "Kolb brewery". Mrs. McShane said, "We are glad the rain held out, there was a good variety of material." Mrs. McShane added, " "We made new friends and met alot of nice people." (Above Right) Bob and Judy Rowell, Bay City natives. Judy said they came to look for Schindehette beer bottles. Judy's father, Clarence Schindehette, was a beer distributor and a descendant of Schindehette brewery.

(Above Left) Robert Kolb and Freddy Youngs. Kolb was a beer distributor for approximately 50 years. Youngs, who is 90 years old worked for the original Kolb Brewery in Bay City. (Above Right) Dick Kolb donates his time and grills brats from Kramer's West. Kolb said, "We previously boiled the brats in beer."

The DGGC is hosting NABA's national convention next year from 7-31-2007 thru 8-5-2007 at the DoubleTree hotel in Bay City. It will bring in hundreds of people to Bay City. Mark your calendars.
