Have you always wondered if your great uncle's pocket watch was any good? What about Granddad's shaving mug or that little vase your mother loved as a child in South Louisiana? Could that lamp possibly be a Tiffany? You'd love to make a trip to a PBS Antiques Road Show appraisal event, but it's just not going to happen. Well hang in there. The Bay County Historical Society is bringing renowned appraisers "right here to River City" to evaluate your treasures.
Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 4. The Historical Society is bringing six appraisers - including some you've seen on television - to the downtown Museum for an appraisal event. The experts will be on hand from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. to examine your items and give you an expert opinion on their approximate value.
The event runs from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. and you can bring as many as three treasures. Come to the Historical Museum of Bay County, 321 Washington Avenue, downtown next door to city hall.
Appraisers for the event include two experts from The DuMouchelle Art Galleries in Detroit. Joining them will be appraisers Don Clark,
Victoria Moore, Rick Schmidt, Karen Brownell, and Judy Campbell. The experts will be appraising dolls, post cards, and jewelry, as well as fine and decorative arts, antiques, and collectibles. Only verbal appraisals will be available. Coins or stamps will not be appraised at this event.
"We are really excited to bring this rare opportunity to
the community," said Historical Society Board member and committee member Terry Moultane. "We are fortunate to have such high quality appraisers to be part of this event."
To participate in this program, bring your items to the Museum
between 10:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M on November 4. A $5.00 fee for each
item to be evaluated is due at the door. No appointment is necessary and individuals will be seen on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is no size limitation; large items can be reviewed via quality photographs and pertinent details.
"The Antiques and Collectibles Appraisal event is an exciting new
activity for the Historical Society. All of the appraisers are
donating their services for the event so all of the fees collected will directly benefit the museum", said Director, Gay
McInerney. Additional funds for the event came from corporate sponsors Michigan Sugar Company and Krzysiak's House Restaurant.
"The Historical Society greatly appreciates the efforts of the
appraisers, as well as the sponsors," said Moultane.
