Bay County Sports Hall of Fame Inducts 8 Hometown Heroes

DoubleTree Hotel is Host to 16th Annual Bay County Sports Celebration

Bay County Sports Hall of Fame Master of Ceremonies, Rod Adams (at the podium)speaks to over 350 sports enthusiasts in attendance at the 16th Annual Banquet held at DoubleTree Hotel on Sunday, October 22nd at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Bay City.

Corporate Sponsor for the 2006 Bay County Induction Ceremony was Bay Regional Medical Center.

Inductees are seated on the DoubleTree stage. Inductees were (Left to right) Susan M. Blumenstein-Smiegel, Randy Morse, Jim Davidson, Isabel Mrozinski (accepting for her husband, Dick Mrozinski), Maxine Barker, Jerry Berg, Dewey Scheddel and Bill Seidenstucker Jr. (accepting for his father, William Seidenstucker.)

Also inducted to the Bay County Sports Hall of Fame were the Bay City All Saints Class "C" State Baseball Champions from 1978 and the 1982 & 1983 Auburn Fertilizer Men's Class "A" State Champions in Fastpitch Softball.

Master of Ceremonies, Rod Adams was named the Hall of Fame's 2006 recipient of the prestigious "President's Award." The "President's Award" is given each year to an individual who has contributed to the success of the Bay County Sports Hall of Fame. Previous winners were O. J. Cunningham (2004) and Denny Hayes (2005).

The Sunday ceremony brings the total of Bay County Hall of Fame inductees to 136. Plaques commemorating the Hall of Fame honorees are hung on the wall of Bay County Community Center, located on John F. Kennedy Drive on Bay City's west side.

$500 scholarships were awarded to All Saints' Hope Kwapiszewski, Bay City Central's Sara Pawlaczyk, Essexville Garber's Mike Gruszynski, Bangor John Glenn's Jon LaRocque, Pinconning's Nicholas Kleinhans and Bay City Western's Jeff Gwizdala. The scholarship program, in its 13th year has already distributed $39,000 to deserving scholar/athletes.

Below: Scholarship winners are introduced by Hall of Fame Vice-President Bob Darbee (at podium). Each scholarship recipient received a check for $500. That brings the total scholarship total given by the Hall of Fame to $39,000.
