Rotary Foundation: Harry Farris reminds all members to keep the Foundation in mind as you plan your year end giving. Gena Gates said the goal is 100% member giving. The amount is not as important as just giving.
Vocational Days Committee is planning this year's event and needs companies to host students. Contact Ralph Knopp or Griff Acker. Griff noted that because of the success of our event, the Frankenmuth club is planning to start a Vocational Day event there.

VOTE SLATED TWO WEEKS: Rotarians will vote for two weeks straight on whether to move the club's luncheon meeting to Lumber Barons, Midland Street. The move has been recommended by a study committee.
NO MEETING NEXT WEEK: There will be no meeting of the Bay City Rotary Club on Dec. 26. We will return to the Quality Inn on Jan. 9 for a luncheon meeting featuring a talk by County Clerk Cynthia Luczak.
LOONS CASH FOR CLUB: President Gena Gates urges Rotarians to form teams of 10-15 relatives and friends to volunteer in the concession stand at the Mid-Michigan Loons baseball games beginning next spring. Teams are needed to staff the stands Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 4 p.m. and Sundays at 12:30 p.m. on approximately six hour shifts. The club will receive 10 percent of the revenue, estimated at $300 to $500 on Thursdays and Fridays and $500 to $700 on Saturdays and Sundays. SIGN UP NOW! We need another good fundraiser!
INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS EYED: Anita Bowden reported on proposed international projects for the club. Target donation level is $5,000 per year and projects with matching funds will be sought. Among projects considered for support from Bay City Rotary are the Heifer Project, Doctors in Health and a West African project being researched by Connie Schweitzer.
VOCATIONAL DAYS: Griff Acker reported that Vocational Days are slated March 20 and 27, 2007. Signup is underway with a cutoff of Jan. 16. Get your forms in now!
LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM: Milt Higgs, attorney, civic leader. Introduced by Eric Jylha.
"Divisiveness among people of good soul and conscience (over the abortion issue) did not begin with Roe vs. Wade but pre-existed for centuries."
That was the opening statement by attorney Milton E. Higgs in his highly reasoned presentation entitled: "Abortion: Possibilities for Reconciliation (as opposed to resolution).
"However, this case crystallized support for and opposition to the availability of abortion," he added.
Mr. Higgs' personal interest in the subject was sparked by the suicide of one of his youngest and first clients, "which removed from the hypothetical for me, the impact of moral issues upon young women faced with an unwanted pregnancy."
Mr. Higgs urged reason in considering this issue: "It is unproductive for those protesting abortion to use such emotionally laden words as 'murder' and 'innocent unborn children.' Such rhetoric does not lend to either resolution or reconciliation, but rather further divisiveness."
He concluded: "Thousands of years of human experience and theological study have not resolved the religious differences. I think it desirable and possible for those dissenting from any religious viewpoint to accept or be reconciled to the law as stated in Roe." ###
