Al Gore - Environmental Patron Saint

I love the Oscars.

I watch all 4+ hours every year.

Makes no difference to me who is the event host. It's always a treat to watch the best and brightest of this country's entertainment and creative talent parade their wares at Oscar night.

I enjoyed Jon Stewart (2006), always love Billy Crystal and surprisingly, liked this year's host, Ellen Degeneres. I especially enjoyed the bit when Ellen had Steven Spielberg take her picture and then asked Spielberg to re-take it since it wasn't perfectly centered on her digital camera. Classic.

However, the most mind-blowing event of the evening was the overwhelming canonization of Al Gore as the Patron Saint of the Environment.

Thanks to Netflix, I had already seen Gore's documentary - An Inconvenient Truth. In the documentary, Gore comes off as a caring man, a family man and the messenger who is our last chance for survival.

Inconvenient Truth makes a solid case for Global Warming. Inconvenient Truth is chock full of beautiful images and hard-to-ignore predictions of impending calamity.

We see dried-up lakes and rivers. We see melting polar ice caps. We see image after image of (unless we do something) unavoidable doom and gloom catastrophe.

On the Internet Movie Database (IMDB), film critic, Roger Ebert says, "You owe it to yourself to see this film, ... If you do not, and you have grandchildren, you should explain to them why you decided not to."

I agree totally. Everyone needs to see this film.

But, back to Gore.

When I was done watching the Inconvenient Truth, I was filled with emotion. (You will be too). I was focused on greenhouse gas. I knew about infrared rays. But the scariest emotion of all - I liked Al Gore.

I did. Honestly. Stop laughing. I did. Why would I lie?

One night later, came the Oscars. "More Good Gore." At the Oscars, Gore was charming, even clever, even funny. Gore was a "man of the people." Al Gore was - The Environmental Messenger.

Everything about Gore said: "I'm Al Gore and I'm here to save the Earth."

What's not to like?

"Save the Planet" -- Now . . . There's a winning Presidential Platform if I ever heard one.

Look out Hillary. Step aside, Mr. Obama. Al Gore, The Patron Saint of the Environment is "in the house." Most already believe that unless George Bush gets the troops out of the Middle East before the presidential election, that there will be a Democrat in the White House.

That Democrat just might be Al Gore.

Remember this! Al Gore already won an election for President - at least he won the "popular" vote.

For my money, the most electable Democrat on February 27, 2007 is Al Gore. How can you NOT vote for a Saint??
