Hooray for Hollywood Bay Med Auction Raises About $60,000 for MRI Equipment

It was "Hooray for Hollywood" and "Hooray for Bay Regional Medical Center" last Saturday night at The Grand.

Hundreds of hospital supporters turned out for the 2007 Charity Auction of the Bay Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, Luciana Horak, interim president, and Bay Medical Foundation, that raised an estimated $60,000 for advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment.

Guests were greeted by Joan Rivers and her daughter Melissa, interviewing the with microphone and snappy quips at the ready.

Bob Thomas, decked out as Charlie Chaplin complete with heavy black eyebrows, presided as master of ceremonies. Auctioneers were Mike Furlo and Trudy Grimason of Furlo Auction Service, Saginaw.

Cavorting through the crowd were characters like Mae West (Sarah Foster), Elvis, (Linda Davis), Gloria Swanson (Kathy Graczyk), Oliver Hardy and Charlie Chaplin (Richard and Sherri Link), puppies from 101 Dalmatians (Maureen Groya, Myra LaPouttre and Polly Thomas).

Hollywood & Vine, AAA of Michigan; BRMC Staff Co-chairs Linda Davis, Sarah Foster, Kathy Craczyk, Sylvia Levitt; Credit Union Plus, Gregory Construction,Jack's Fruit & Meat Markets, Independent Bank, National City Bank; and


Beverly Hills Boulevard, Allen Supply Co., Assured Financial Advisors, Chemical Bank-Bay Area, Fabiano Brothers, Fashion Square Mall, Gatza Builders, Graff Chevrolet, Labadie Auto Co., Thelen Auto Group, Bob and Judy Thomas, and Wirt Financial Services.

Downstairs, 21 of "the arm band and green eyeshade boys" were playing for big stakes in the Texas Hold-em Tournament with impresario Fritz Horak in charge. Jim Letson of Saginaw raked in the final pot as the winner and got an engraved watch from Simmons Jewelers to boot. Dealers were Big Bob Johnson, Harry Stumpos and Ted Tober.

It was a gala night, with silent auction, balloon sales, sweepstakes and 50/50, live auction featuring trips and dozens of spectacular fur coats up to $12,000 in value, Princess Wenonah Cruise, Mitchell Motorcoach tour, Shanty Creek Condo stay, Rat Pack Artwork, salmon or walleye fishing trip, weekend on the Leelanau Peninsula and Suite at the Palace of Auburn Hills for a game between the Detroit Pistons and Philly 76ers.###
