Is it about the Motocross or the display of Pyrotechnics?

The Amp'd Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series flared up Ford Field in Detroit, Saturday, April 21, 2007.

The 2007 Supercross Series started on January 6, 2007, and will continue to race 'til they hit Las Vegas for Round 16 on May 5, 2007 for the Championship!

This was the second year for Ford Field to hold the show. (previous years at the Pontiac Silverdome.)

For the Detroit area, it was a big day/night as the TIGERS had a game at Comerica Park, RED WINGS had a play-off game at Joe Louis Arena and The PISTONS had a play-off game at 7 at the Palace of Auburn Hills and of course the SUPERCROSS at Ford Field.

Detroit was one Great BIG PARTY!! Unfortunately the Tigers lost. But for everyone else, it was a successful night including James Stewart who got the hole-shot and never looked back in the 450 class. (Which was no surprise) (Stewart Pictured Right)
Chad Reed rode 12 or 13 laps before he moved into 2nd place. Tim Ferry got a respectable 3rd and 4th place went to Kevin Windham.

Ricky Carmichael, who holds a record of 15 AMA National Championships, only raced a selected schedule this year, (which didn't include Detroit.) as he prepares for his next career in stock-car racing.

I think the highlight of the night goes to the Pyro show which seems to get bigger and better every year, - and - when we walked into a packed Hard Rock Café, just around the corner, before the races and Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden was Rockin - Rio!! (That ones for you Joe!)

Let me dig up some more Pyro shots, and maybe a few supercross pics.

Results of the 250 (Lites):
  • 1. Ryan Dungey
  • 2. Ben Townley
  • 3. Thomas Hahn
  • 4. Billy Laninovich
