I love it when a plan comes together.

This past weekend's Grand Opening Celebration at Bay Valley came together perfectly.

Good food, great entertainment, super service and a general overall upbeat ambiance all helped make it a successful weekend at Bay Valley Hotel Resort & Convention Center.

I got to spend a little time with Dueling Piano entertainers Ashton Wolf and "Smokin' George" Winters. These guys put on a fabulous show on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Winters will be back next weekend but with a different piano playing partner. That's how the 3-month Dueling Pianos will keep the act fresh every weekend - by bringing in new players on a revolving basis. Wolf's next trip? He'll be back in Bay City on the weekend of June 2.

The Dueling Piano format is part sing-a-long, part comedy and flourishes when the audience joins in. "We know over 1,000 songs," said Ashton Wolf. "We can really get into it when there's a good crowd," Wolf went on. "The Bay Valley Players' Lounge is a perfect environment for the Dueling Piano format," Wolf said.

Wolf went on to say that Bay Valley's Players' Lounge is a perfect place for a Friday night Bachelor/Bachelorette Party or for an office "roast" and/or retirement party. "We can cater to any small group," Wolf said.

Mel Kent, Corporate Sales & Marketing Manager for the Bay Valley Hotel and Conference Center was all smiles during the weekend. "It was a great turnout," Kent said. "It was a great opportunity (for us) to showcase the new image of the facility," Kent said.

Neal Beyers, Food Services Manager, was also upbeat. "We have a completely redesigned bar menu," Beyers said about the full buffet featuring wings, fruit platters and varied salads that was on display.

Ice sculptures from Crystal Clear Ice Company were also featured during the Friday night buffet. Dueling Piano sculptures and an Ice Luge, for chilling drinks, were big hits with the weekend crowd.

All in all, a great weekend and a great kickoff for a new era at Bay Valley. Take the short drive down I-75 and be ready to be impressed with the new look and new attitude at Bay Valley Hotel Resort and Convention Center.
