Graff To Sponsor High School Football Coverage
Applications are sought by MyBayCity.com from high school students who aim to become photo-journalists.
The news magazine will hire six or more students with cameras to cover high school football this fall in a program sponsored by Graff Chevrolet, 3636 E. Wilder Road.
"We are pleased to partner with Graff Chevrolet to offer these opportunities to high school students to learn while they earn," said O.J. Cunningham, publisher of MyBayCity.com.
"Internet news is a hot area right now all across the country and our web news magazine, MyBayCity.com, is experiencing an ever higher volume of visitors and readership," Cunningham said.
"We believe that the experience students will get by becoming Graff High School Football correspondents will perhaps spark their interest for a career in photo-journalism," he added.
Opening games for all six high schools in Bay County are:
Thursday, Aug. 23: Saginaw High at Central, 7 p.m.;
Friday, Aug. 24: All Saints at Valley Lutheran, 7 p.m.;
Friday, Aug. 24: Garber at Pinconning, 7 p.m.;
Friday, Aug. 24, Cadillac at Glenn, 7 p.m.;
Friday, Aug. 24, Western at Flint Central, 7 p.m.
Jim Eurick, Head Football Coach at Western, looks forward to a Thursday scrimmage against a strong Mt. Pleasant team to get a handle on how his squad will perform in a tough Saginaw Valley League.
Western is coming off a disappointing 2-7 season but Eurick has had excellent teams during his two decades at the helm of the gridiron Warriors. His team has potential since it is heavy with returning veterans.
"We are trying to rebuild after a difficult year last year," said Eurick. "I'm not making any predictions until I get a couple of weeks of practice in with this group."
He sees Central, Midland and Heritage as powerhouses in the Saginaw Valley this year.
MyBayCity.com will post complete schedules with updated scores week-by-week so fans can access the complete records of their team during the season.###
