Garber fans gathered in Pinconning on August 24 to cheer on the Dukes.
And it must have helped.
The varsity Dukes had a 21-6 victory over the Spartans. The first half of the game was fairly uneventful until Justin Zielinski caught a 9-yard pass from Henika and got a touchdown 37 seconds before halftime. The score was 7-0 after Jade Dowdy scored the extra point for Garber.
The Dukes weren't stopping there.
In the middle of the third quarter Andrew Aho and Josh Pierson both scored touchdowns within 58 seconds. Pinconning avoided a shutout in the final moments of the game, but there was no denying that victory went to the Dukes.
"We all have faith." said Sharron Rochow, mother of number 58 Chris Rochow. And with good reason too, apparently. The crowed showed no lack of encouragement for their team.
The cheerleaders were keeping the fans going. Janelle Phillips, a member of the squad, said, "I love to cheer for the football players. I get excited and so does the crowd."
Although, not as excited as the crowd was when the Dukes won the game 21-6.
