This documentary was produced by Joe Peruzzi, a media professional from Clinton Township; Cindy Sue Donahue, a staff historian with Macomb County; and Donald W. Green local historian. This is the third documentary produced by this trio of dedicated historians.

Mount Clemens was internationally known for the high quality of its salt brine spa waters from 1870 until 1970. People would travel to Mount Clemens for the healing powers of this famous spa thus making the name of the city well known around the world. A major industry grew in Mount Clemens with over 75 hotels and 11 Spa bathhouses. It has been estimated that there was a "floating" population of over 50,000 during the summer season. All the usual tourist recreations had to be provided for including gambling, horse racing, prostitution and lots of water sports.

Ms. Donahue and Mr. Green will introduce the film and answer questions after the showing. They will also show artifacts from the Spa period. Admission to the premiere is included with full conference registration.

Friday programs include: Basic Curatorial Skills, with Suzy Mazloom and Elizabeth Barrett, Arab American National Museum; Walking Tour of Selfridge Military Air Museum and Mount Clemens History; and a special exhibit, "William Thompson: the Forgotten Patriot, 1756-1783."

Richard Wiener, president of the Historical Society of Michigan and former chief of staff for Gov. Jennifer Granholm, will keynote the State History Awards Banquet at 6 p.m. Friday.

Saturday programs include: "The William Thompson Exhibit and its Connection to the Old Northwest Territory," with Ken Hoover, history and arts consultant; "History of Selfridge Field," with Deborah J. Larsen, assistant director, Mount Clemens Public Library, and Lt. Col. Louis J. Nigro, executive director, Selfridge Military Air Museum; "Public Relations for Local Museums and Small Historical Societies," with Janet Mendler, Michigan Press Association Foundation; "Packard Proving Grounds," with John MacArthur, president, Packard Motor Car Foundation; "Dealing with Difficult History," Suzanne Pixley, chair, Macomb County Historical Commission; Frank Boles, Clarke Historical Library, Central Michigan University; John Thorp, Jim Crow Museum, Ferris State University; "Encouraging Student Research in Your Museum," Brad Jarvis, assistant professor of History, Saginaw Valley State University; "Clinton and Kalamazoo Canal," Donald Green, historian; "Michigan Women as Activists," Virginia Paganelli Caruso, emerita, Henry Ford Community College; "Historic Books: How to Identify, Mend, Collect and Care for Valuable Volumes," Jay Platt, West Side Book Shop; "GM Heritage Center and closing keynote," (GM Heritage Center), Bill Pelfrey, author of "Billy, Alfred and General Motors."
