Larry Jacobs and Kurt Miller provided madcap antics to delight the State Theatre crowd.

Patrons of the State Theatre were greeted by a Mayan warrior at the annual "Taste and Theatrics of the State Theatre" last Thursday night.

The warrior actually was Scott Pease, local Farm Bureau insurance agent, in full body paint, beaded gorget, feathered hair and native togs, looking like the real thing.

It was the kind of first class touch that the State has become known for under executive director Mike Bacigalupo, who made the big announcement:

"We will unveil the new marquee next Sept. 11 at the Taste and Theatrics of the State Theatre."

The marquee will be the jewel in the crown that is the completely renovated theatre.

In October George and Sue Loessel will host the third in annual series of meetings of the 1930 Society that is raising an endowment fund for the community treasure that is the State Theatre. The society has grown and will reach nearly 80 members this year, Bacigalupo predicted.

Guests thronging the food tents were entertained by Kurt Miller and Larry Jacobs, dressed as floozy waitresses to promote "Tuna Christmas" coming in December. Tri-Star Bank of Saginaw kicks off its Jazz and Blues concerts Saturday. Also upcoming is Bob Bloenk and Friends Night of Vaudeville, the ever-popular Ghost Tour and a Movie, the Hell's Half Mile Film Festival sponsored by the Bay Arts Council, and Sundays in the City movies sponsored by Thelen Auto Group coming in November.

The Mike Brush Combo soothed through a few jazz and blues tunes for the patrons after the tasting was done, capping the night in mellow fashion.###
