Garber Dukes Face Birch Run This Friday After Loss to Frankenmuth, 17-7

Dukes Home to Panthers After Falling From Unbeaten Ranks in Eagle Land

The Garber Dukes are geared up to host Birch Run this Friday after a tough battle in a losing cause with Frankenmuth last week.

In the Birch Run Panthers, Garber is facing a 3-1 team that is 2-1 in the Tri-Valley Conference. A common opponent is the Vassar Vulcans, that Birch Run defeated 34-7 and Garber downed 27-18 in the second game of the season.

Birch Run has a first class passer in Brett Cook who tossed for 147 yards on 6 completions for 8 attempts against Vassar. Birch Run was Tri-Valley East co-champion last year with a 6-1 record.

Last week the Dukes were feeling good with their third win, as were the Eagles; however, only one team could stay undefeated. As much as Garber wanted the win, Frankenmuth wanted it just a little bit more.

Turnovers and penalties were costly to the Dukes, with one late drive ending at the Frankenmuth 17 on a penalty.

The Dukes started strong with Randon Henika scoring a touchdown, but Nathan Cormier from Frankenmuth came right back and the score was 7-7 throughout the first half of the game.

Barely into the third quarter, Cormier scored another touchdown, making the score 7-14. Shortly after Garber looked as if they were going to make a comeback, with a complete pass to Andrew Aho bringing them dangerously close to tying the score again, but Frankenmuth took control of the ball and made an amazing run from the 6-yard line all the way to the opposite 21-yard line.

The Dukes held up their defense, preventing the Eagles from another touchdown, and the score was still 7-14 at the and of the third quarter.

Halfway through the fourth quarter, Frankenmuth kicked a 27-yard field goal, and the game ended with Garber defeated 17-7.

Essexville Garber was fired up before the Frankenmuth game but suffered a 17-7 setback. The Dukes hope to rebound against Birch Run this Friday at home.
