The Hell's Half Mile Film & Music Festival is back for the second year, and is fast becoming Mid Michigan's favorite fall event, October 11th - 14th, 2007 in Downtown Bay City!!! With interest in independent film at an all-time high, film festivals from around the world to just around the corner are bringing unique films to audiences starving to see them on the "big screen."

Last year, the festival showcased nearly 40 feature length, short films, documentaries, animated and foreign language films, plus, bands and musicians from around the state. This year you can expect more great music and terrific films, plus appearances from filmmakers and cast members, a film industry panel discussion and a screenwriter workshop. The venues include the State Theatre, the Delta College Planetarium and Learning Center and the addition of two screens at the Masonic Temple, totaling four screens.

The festival kicks off with the opening night film and party on Thursday, October 11th and runs through Sunday, October 14th. Friday, October 12th starts the general film schedule at all venues in addition to the first night of music at the Masonic Temple. On Friday there will also be a screenwriter workshop and art show. On Saturday films and music continue along with a second screenwriters workshop.

The film schedule will be available on-line at http://www.hellshalfmile.com on September 26th with printed schedules available the week of the event. Film tickets are $5.00 per film and on-sale through the State Theatre Box Office or through E-Tix on October 1st. Music tickets and All Access Festival Passes are available at the Bay Arts Council office only.

The Hell's Half Mile Film & Music Festival is presented by the Bay Arts Council and sponsored by Michigan Cardio Vascular Institute, St. Mary's of Michigan, Independent Bank, OmniSource, the Michigan Film Office, Timothy's Fine Cigars, COPOCO Community Credit Union, with media sponsor Citadel Broadcasting. The festival also received major grant funding from the Bay City Noon Rotary Club and the Bay Area Community Foundation

The Festival's name comes from the downtown riverfront area, once known as Hell's Half Mile. Once lined with raucous saloons and 'two-bit' hotels, it was a destination for turn-of-the-century loggers and sailors to blow off steam and take in a bit of local color.

By the late 1800s, Bay City had over 80 hotels, hundreds of saloons and countless movie houses and theaters, making it the entertainment capitol of Northern Michigan. While much time has passed and much has changed, including a rebirth of the once infamous stretch of riverfront, the Hell's Half Mile Film & Music Festival is a celebration of Bay City's history as an entertainment destination and proof the that the independent spirit lives here (in Bay City).

Today, the city boasts a beautiful downtown riverfront with boutiques, restaurants, theatres, pubs, hotel accommodations and other points of interest. From a state of the art planetarium to art galleries, a thriving business community and an active shipping lane for Great Lakes freighters, Bay City is alive with activity. It is this lively atmosphere that Festival Founder and Director, Alan LaFave feels will continue to provide an ideal setting for the event.

The Festival is not only a way to introduce visitors to Bay City, it is also intended to foster an atmosphere of creativity for aspiring artists, as well as bring new audiences to talented bands and filmmakers," said LaFave, also emphasizing, "it is truly about exposure."

Hell's Half Mile Film & Music Festival is produced with the support of the Bay Arts Council. This is the second annual event, and there are many opportunities for involvement and support. Anyone interested in being a volunteer, sponsor, or participant, should email info@hhmfest.com.
