256 Michigan High School Football Teams Will Make the Playoffs...

Week six of high school football is already here and if you don't know what kind of team your school has, you will after Friday night's big games.
Nearly all games this week have playoff implications. With all area teams playing league games this week, every game is important, whether your team is entertaining playoff thoughts or not.
Playoffs, what a wonderful thought for many high school football players, I want to give you some clarity on the most recent playoff scenarios.
For those of you whose teams haven't thought about the playoffs in 2007 there may be hope for your team yet.
As stated by the MHSAA, schools with six or more wins playing nine-game schedules or five or more wins playing eight games or fewer will qualify for the MHSAA playoffs beginning Oct. 27-28.
Schools with 5-4, 4-3 or 4-4 records may qualify if the number of potential qualifiers by win total does not reach the 256 mark.
Once the 256 qualifying schools are determined, they will be divided by enrollment groups into eight equal divisions of 32 schools and then drawn into regions of eight teams each and districts of four teams each.
The announcement of the playoff field will take place Oct. 21.
The math involved in determining playoff points is nearly as complicated as the NCAA BCS rankings for bowl games.
If I ever find the rules and can explain them here in the future I will, but for now let's preview this weeks key games with playoff implications.
The biggest game is in the Saginaw Valley League where Western hosts Midland High and with both sporting 4-1 records. The High has a tiny edge in "playoff points," 76.00 to 74.20 although both teams could qualify with a loss this week.
The next tier and probably more important game due to their 3-2 records and closeness in "playoff points," thus closer to elimination with a loss are Bay City Central (54.200) and Midland Dow (50.800).
The winner of this game may go while the looser will probably stay home. This game is at Dow so good luck wolves, and keep those playoff hopes alive.
In the North East League you have two match ups with Bangor John Glenn (2-2) hosting Oscoda (0-5) and Pinconning (1-4) hosting Tawas Area (4-1).
Playoffs could still be on the mind of Bangor John Glenn with only eight games on their schedule they could be on the bubble where Pinconning could play spoiler to Tawas Area.
Tri-Valley B East League match-up with playoff implications Garber (4-1) will travel to Caro (1-4) who won big last week 53-22. And in the Greater Thumb "C" Conference West, All Saints (1-4) is Hosting the Lakers (2-3) at Saint Stanislaus Field.
So this is the week of shake-outs with the winners thinking playoffs, so go out and cheer for your local team, they will be glad you did. High school football is the best entertainment you can find for just $5.00
