Looking around the area you may have noticed that Spring has Sprung and Summer's almost here!

The Orioles and Indigo Buntings are pillaging my apple tree in the back yard and the hummingbirds are fighitng their way in to get what blossoms are left. AHHH Spring! You've got to love the bright colors and sounds of Mother Nature bringing new life to what was soundly sleeping only a short time ago.

Spring is my favorite time of year, next to Fall. Memorial Day Weekend is upon us and you knowwhat that means. . . Bass Season.

The Walleye opener, a few weeks ago, went by with a tear in my eye, because that happened to be the weekend I moved from the city to the country. So, this weekend we will try our luck at both Walleye and Bass! The boat is ready, the gear is packed, the only thing we need now is for Friday afternoon to come. I'm hoping the weather will hold out and we will have a successful weekend but, knowing Memorial Day Weekend in Michigan it will be cold and rainy. I can't remember the last Memorial Day Weekend that the weather cooperated.

Another event that is coming up in June that you won't want to miss is the FREE Fishing Weekend, June 7-8, during which anglers of all ages can fish without licenses on Michigan waters.

So now is the time to make plans to take someone you love out to enjoy the great sport of fishing in this wonderful state to which I call home.

Check back to see what is going on locally for the Free Fishing Weekend!

On a more serious note. Spring is also the time of year you want to take your dog to the veterinary office, have them tested for heartworm and start the preventative maintenance for heartworm, fleas, ticks, mosquitoes and other pesky critters. Gunner has already been and even though he was on the medication last summer a faint positive came back. We are now waiting for more tests to come back from the lab and are desperately praying for a negative reading.

So I may be preaching about heartworm preventatives but believe me, you don't want to be going through what we are right now with the waiting game. To most people their dogs are part of the family and Gunner is no exception. Please take my advice and get your pets in to be tested. Buying preventatives over the internet may be harmful or fatal to your dog if they are positive for heartworm. Take them to your local vet office to be tested first.

Have a great and safe holiday weekend!
