Here we are in the last week of high school football and two local teams have secured their right to play in the post season dance while two others are on the bubble.

Bay City Central (6-2) and Essexville Garber (6-2) will be playing playoff football next week, Bay City Western (5-3) and Bangor John Glenn (4-3) face must win situations to qualify.

The kicker is they will be playing those two fore mentioned local teams who already qualified, basically turning this week nine into a playoff game for the Bobcats and Warriors.

The Central-Western game at Elmer Engel Stadium has the most on the line as the Wolves hope to clinch their share of the Saginaw Valley League Championship with a win while the Warriors want to play spoilers and qualify for the playoffs with a win of their own.

Statistically the Wolves hold a slight edge on the Warriors in total offense 2480-2411 while gaining 160 more of those yards rushing the ball.

On defense the Wolves also hold a slight edge 1875-2012. The Warriors gave up most of their yards against the run 1303 while the Wolves "D" has been much stingier giving up only 770, while on the flip side the Warriors shine in pass defense giving up only 711 while the Wolves have given up 1105 through the air.

You can probably throw all the statistics out when these two teams meet.

The question is, will the coach's follow the numbers and try to attack the others weakness?

Will the Wolves running game keep running down hill or will Warrior quarterback Matt Grew get the best of the Wolves defense through the air?

Either way its going to be a great game from two high quality programs.

In the other hometown match up Essexville Garber travels across the river to play a starving Bobcat squad.

With only eight games on their schedule the Bobcats can qualify with their fifth win, but the Dukes want to make a statement and enter the playoffs on their own winning streak.

Inter city rivalry's provide enough emotion for the fans, coach's and players but the added playoff contention should make these games downright unbearable for all those involved.

In the other local schools games both Pinconning and All Saints finish with conference games as the Spartans travel to Unionville Sebewaing Area and All Saints hosts Carrollton at Saint Stanislaus Field.
