YWCA Community Director, Tracy Volk will have her eye toward the heavens when Friday The 13th of June rolls around. This year is Volk's first year as Event Director for the annual Riverside Art Festival. And she has high hopes for a successful weekend.

The Riverside Art Festival is scheduled to run Saturday June 14th (10:00am - 6:00pm) and Sunday June 15th (11:00am - 4:00pm.)

Friday (the 13th) afternoon is set-up day for the festival, Volk said in a recent interview.Volk went on to say that almost 100 artists are expected in downtown Bay City at Wenona Park for the 30th Annual event.

Volk kept looking up at the sky. "Michigan weather, even in mid-June, can be hideous and unpredictable," she said apprehensively. "It seems like every other year, we get great weather for the Art Festival, Volk said. Then she laughed nervously. "Last year, the weather was great."

But Volk has high hopes for this year's event. The YWCA Riverside Art Festival features artists from around the country. Artists from Michigan (Lansing, Ann Arbor and Detroit) as well as vendors from as far away as Florida will be on hand to market their wares on the banks of the Saginaw River at Wenona Park. "We have more artists then we had last year," Volk said. "Everyone that has the opportunity should take time to visit the Art Festival during the weekend."

All proceeds from the Art Festival support local YWCA programs and services for Bay County women, girls and their families. Assistance in the areas of child care, summer camp and programs for the disabled will all be funded from the event's proceeds.

In addition, the YWCA will have a membership drive at their festival booth during the weekend. Initiation fees for new members who sign up during the Art Festival weekend will be waived. "That's a savings of $99," Volk said.
