Bay City Players will present the play; The Vast Difference, by Jeff Daniels, November 30 - December 2 and December 6-9, 2007 at the Bay City Players, 1214 Columbus Avenue, in Bay City.

Performance times are 8:00 p.m Thursday through Saturday and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The Vast Difference is directed by Bob Graczyk and Robin Devereaux.

Flight attendant George Noonan, father of five girls, needs a vasectomy. That's the basic idea, but how George finally comes to terms with following through with the plan is the plot of this comedy.

His routine visits to the female urologist "become psychotherapy sessions about life, the insignificance of modern-day man, and the vast differences between stewards and stewardesses."

Because he makes many trips to the doctor before he finally follows through, his wife suspects he's having an affair with his urologist. Is it significant that it's a female doctor who will do the cutting?

This comedy "bristles with satirical darts, mile-a-minute entrances and exits and madcap surrealism." The play moves back and forth in time. (This show contains some adult themes.)

The box office for The Vast Difference will open on Monday, November 26, 2007.

Box office hours are Monday through Saturday, 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., and Sunday from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m.

The box office phone number is (989) 893-5555. Students may purchase tickets for the Thursday, December 6th performance for $5.00; student ID must be presented to the box office at time of purchase. Visit http://www.baycityplayers.com/

THE PLOT: This is a comic drama that explores a mother-daughter relationship that is both maddeningly funny and touching. It's a "rocky ride between laughter and tears." Roberta's mother is the mother from hell.

Izzy (Isabelle) is refined in appearance but generally acerbic and dismissive, especially around Roberta. Her father, whose birthday they try to celebrate in the first act, is a gentle soul who is used to letting his wife run the show. Roberta's husband, Zachery, and her best friend, Leslie, are easy-going.

Roberta is high-strung and emotionally guarded, no surprise with a mother like Izzy who always knows what's best for everyone and whose opinions are always the correct ones. We see a little of Izzy in Roberta's treatment of Zach.

The barriers between mother and daughter break down in the second act when Izzy decides to stay with Roberta for a while after the death of Arthur. By the end of the play we are sure that Izzy and Roberta will treat each other with respect and that her love for Zach, which had been questionable at one point, is real.

(This show contains adult language along with adult themes.)
